Filed under: New York Auto Show , Convertible , Coupe , Performance , Dodge The Dodge Viper has been absent for just one model year, but the natives are restless. With little concrete information out there about the next generation Viper, and Dodge officials remaining tight-lipped about their halo car, anything that surfaces is big news. So how about this for the biggest news yet: Chrysler’s SRT Brand President and CEO Ralph Gilles has announced in the pages of Viper magazine that the 2013 Viper will be introduced at the New York Auto Show in early April. So what might we expect to learn in the next four months

According to the company, certain 2010 Chrysler Town and Country , Dodge Grand Caravan and Dodge Journey vehicles were built with ignitions that could accidently switch from the “run” position to “accessory,” thereby causing the engine to shut off. Both the company and NHTSA are concerned that the issue could cause an accident. As such, Chrysler will replace the ignition modules free of charge beginning in April of this year

A limited-edition version painted Furious Fuchsia is an excellent way to pay homage to the Challengers of yore. Another way to pay? Buy lots 1251 and 1251.1 at the 2011 Barrett-Jackson auction; a 2010 Dodge Challenger SRT8 listed as #135 out of 400 Furious Fucshia examples and a 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A wearing a similar paint scheme.

Gilles: Next Dodge Viper inspired by a "naked woman on the beach." Aren’t we all?

2010 Dodge Viper Final Edition Roadster, ACR and Coupe – Click above for high-res image gallery The Dodge Viper has always been an impressive looking vehicle, but its muscled lines haven’t ever been what we’d call feminine. That may change with the next-generation version of the Snake. Ralph Gilles , head of Chrysler design and the Dodge brand, says that the look of the next Dodge Viper will be inspired by “a naked woman on the beach.” Sorry, but we’re having a hard time coming up with a witty quip after that one (well, other than the one in the headline). Gilles made the announcement while speaking with reporters at the Automotive News World Conference, and while the revelation about the vehicle’s design inspiration was a big highlight, he also announced that the next Viper would take dead aim at stealing buyers away from both the Porsche brand and the Chevrolet Corvette

2010 Dodge Journey Crew AWD

2010 Dodge Journey Crew AWD Clearly the best vehicle on Chrysler’s mid-size platform. I was more impressed by the Journey than I expected to be. It’s smooth and quiet, and the powertrain is refined; the six-speed automatic works pretty well with the V-6. 2011 Dodge Challenger gets new Pentastar V6 with 305 HP

Filed under: Coupe , Chrysler , Dodge 2010 Dodge Challenger – Click above for high-res image gallery It’s no secret that Chrysler is making the most of its new 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine. We’ve tested this mill in the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and know the automaker has plans to offer it in the forthcoming Dodge Avenger , Durango , Charger and Journey , as well as the new Chrysler 200 , 300 and Town & Country . Good news all around, but what’s most interesting is that the Challenger pony car will benefit from Pentastar power, meaning that the base V6 model will be better poised to compete with its cross-town rivals, the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro . The 2011 Challenger V6 will produce 305 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque, gains of 55 hp and 18 lb-ft versus the 2010 model.
