Ford recalling 126,000 Fusions and Milans over wheel separation concern

Filed under: Sedan , Recalls , Safety , Ford , Mercury Ford has announced a recall of certain Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan vehicles after an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration . A total of 128,616 2010 and 2011 models equipped with steel wheels may have been manufactured with wheel studs that could crack and split over time. If that happens, the vehicle may experience a wheel separation. According to The Detroit News , the company is aware of a total of 30 wheel separation incidents, one of which occurred on the front of the vehicle

Ford recalling over 26,000 trucks over taillamp issues

Filed under: SUV , Truck , Recalls , Safety , Ford Ford has announced a recall of 26,715 E-Series , Excursion and Ranger vehicles for a defective hazard warning, signal and brake light switch. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration , certain F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 vehicles manufactured between 2002 and 2007, certain Excursion models built between 2002 and 2005 and Ranger pickups built between 2002 and 2011 may have been assembled with a faulty switch that could deform over time. All of the vehicles were manufactured at the automaker’s Twin Cities plant. The deformed switches may eventually lead to malfunctioning lights, which NHTSA warns may increase the risk of an accicent

A report from Ford Inside News suggests that the Fusion Hybrid’s revised powertrain, which will most likely feature Ford’s fuel-saving e-CVT trans , will bump the vehicle’s fuel economy rating all the way up to 47 or 48 miles per gallon city. If true, that would be a healthy increase over the 2011 Fusion Hybrid’s 41 mpg city rating, which is already class leading. Since the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid will make use of the same hardware, this means that the gas-electric MKZ is almost sure to have an identical mpg rating

Ford Escape, Mercury Mariner under investigation for rear glass that shatters

Filed under: SUV , Government/Legal , Recalls , Safety , Ford 2010 Ford Escape – Click above for high-res image gallery The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is currently investigating 2010 and 2011 Ford Escapes and Mercury Mariners due to several complaints of shattering rear glass. According to The Detroit News, there have been 18 reported complaints of the glass braking “simultaneously” while opening or closing the liftgate, and one of the incidents reportedly resulted in the vehicle owner and a 10-year-old child receiving cuts from the glass. The NHTSA investigation adds that Ford issued a technical service bulletin to dealers last November for 2010-2011 Escape and Mariner models.

Report: Ford feels Japan quake effect with shortage of red, black paint

Filed under: Plants/Manufacturing , Ford 2010 Ford Taurus SHO – Click above for high-res image gallery Due to a pigment shortage stemming from the March 11 earthquake in Japan, Ford has had to stop taking new orders for cars in Tuxedo Black, and is limiting orders of three shades of red. Officials from Ford say they’re working on another source for the pigment as you read this, and have enough cars in each color to satisfy demand until production resumes. The paint shortage affects the F-150 and Super Duty lines of pickups, as well as the Explorer , the Expedition , Focus , Taurus and the Lincoln MKS and Navigator .
