Report: Slow-selling Lexus HS 250h already getting the axe?

Filed under: Hybrid , Sedan , Lexus , Luxury Lexus may stop production of the HS 250h . Reports have emerged that the model is suffering from flagging sales and that the luxury automaker may seek to replace the vehicle with a less-expensive, more youth-oriented product in the near future. Last month, Lexus managed to sell just 250 HS 250h units, which is a decline of 72.8 percent compared to the same (already low) period last year. Originally envisioned as a more upscale version of the Toyota Prius , the awkwardly styled HS 250h carries a substantial price tag that has likely done much to scare off would-be buyers.

Despite tough year, Toyota finishes 2010 with best-selling car, brand and luxury marque titles

Filed under: Car Buying , Lexus , Scion , Toyota , Earnings/Financials 2010 Lexus GX460 – Click above for high-res image gallery By most accounts, Toyota didn’t have the rosiest of years in 2010. Hounded by safety recalls, lawsuits and government investigations, the automaker saw its once spotless reputation grow more sullied by the month. Still, it’s important to note that none of these issues stopped the Japanese automaker from snagging some impressive U.S. sales titles, including the best-selling car ( Camry ), brand (Toyota) and luxury marque ( Lexus ) for 2010, not including fleet sales

Lexus ‘ES 300h’ trademark filing suggests lux’d up Camry Hybrid on the way?

Filed under: Hybrid , Sedan , Government/Legal , Lexus , Rumormill 2010 Lexus ES 350 – Click above for high-res image gallery The Toyota Camry -based Lexus ES isn’t exactly the most exciting product in the automaker’s range. The entry-level luxury front-driver just received a slight refresh for the 2010 model year, but based on a filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office discovered by Car and Driver , an electrified ES hybrid may be in the cards for the sedan’s next generation. Like the rest of Lexus’ hybrids, the numerical part of the ‘ES 300h’ nomenclature doesn’t really hold any sort of significance in terms of engine displacement. We’d hardly be surprised to find the Camry Hybrid’s 2.4-liter mill under the Lexus’ hood, though we won’t rule out the possibility that output numbers could be tweaked for use in the ES 300h.

Rumormill (Yet Again): Lexus GS-F is coming

Filed under: Sedan , Performance , Lexus , Rumormill 2010 Lexus GS 350 F-Sport by TRD – Click above for high-res image gallery This certainly isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumblings about Lexus working on a performance version of its GS sedan. The crew at Road & Track reports that the upcoming GS-F will serve as the range-topping trim in the GS model range, set apart from its siblings with not only a more aggressive appearance, but a serious increase in power, to boot. Sources within Toyota have told the buff book that the GS-F will be powered by a 5.0-liter V8, just like the smaller IS-F , but that output will be increased to 465 horsepower for the larger sedan.

Lexus IS coupe could come as early as 2012

Filed under: Coupe , Lexus , Luxury 2010 Lexus IS 350C F-Sport – Click above for high-res image gallery The Lexus GS is set to get a comprehensive redesign sometime next year, including thoroughly upgraded underpinnings that will for the basis of Lexus ‘ next generation 5 Series fighter. Like the current GS platform, the new architecture will form the basis of the next IS , which in its current form is essentially a shortened and squished GS. With that in mind, the next generation IS will follow shortly thereafter – likely sometime in 2012 – and in addition to the current sedan and convertible, Lexus could finally add an IS coupe to its lineup. Lexus recognizes that it hasn’t had a credible player in that market for far too long, and with the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe around the corner and the two-door BMW 3 Series holding its own, the obvious question is why hasn’t Lexus done it sooner
