Report: Saab pondering tech partnership with Germans, picks GMAC as official financer

To that end, Spyker CEO Victor Muller has let slip to Automotive News Europe that Saab is actively looking at technology sharing arrangements with other OEMs – and they aren’t just looking in former parent General Motors ‘ direction. More to the point, Muller says that Saab has already been contacted by around a half-dozen OEMS, including “some German brands,” although the unnamed Deutsch companies are said to exclude Volkswagen and Audi . Saab presently has production and intellectual property agreements in place with GM to keep fresh product flowing through the rollout of its next-generation 9-3 in 2012, but after that line launches, it could receive parts developed from outside partners, including things like new powertrains, and potentially down the road, platforms.

2010 Saab 9-3X U.S. pricing announced
Filed under: Car Buying , Wagon , Saab 2010 Saab 9-3X – Click above for high-res image gallery Saab has released pricing details on its 2010 9-3 lineup, a newsworthy action in that it wasn’t long ago that “Saab” and “2010 models” appeared to be mutually exclusive terms. Now that Victor Muller and Spyker have graciously relieved GM of the Saab albatross, it’s onward and (ideally) upward for 2010 as the new company, Saab Spyker Automobiles, chases after the profits that have perennially eluded Trollh
Report: Saab 9-3X now available for order at U.S. dealers
Filed under: Wagon , Saab 2010 Saab 9-3X – Click above for high-res image gallery The good news for Saab loyalists is that dealerships have been told they may start placing orders for the Saab 9-3X . The bad news for Saab loyalists is that if the deal with Spyker falls through, that brand-new Saab you are dreaming about will never arrive in your driveway. In a nutshell, dealers are allowed to take orders for the cars, but there’s no pricing information and nothing will be officially submitted until the Saab/Spyker deal closes (as of now, this is scheduled for February 15). The announcement isn’t completely unexpected.

BREAKING: Swedish Patient Succumbs – Deal for Saab is dead on the table, GM to wind down brand
Filed under: GM , Saab , Earnings/Financials 2010 Saab 9-5 – Click above for high-res image gallery After a protracted saga that has seen bidders drop in-and-out, old model tooling and assets sold off to the Chinese , the enigmatic brand known as Saab is dead. In a press release issued this morning, General Motors announced that the “intended sale of Saab Automobile AB would not be concluded.” GM had been in talks with Dutch exoticmakers Spyker Cars after pursuing a number of other buyer leads (including the aborted sale with Koenigsegg ), but The General says that in the course of due diligence, the resolution of certain unspecified issues became impossible in the time frame that they had set for themselves. As such, GM will immediately begin the “wind down” of the much-loved yet perpetually unprofitable cult brand, but says it will continue to honor warranties and provide spare parts and service – presumably through other GM brand dealers as Saab dealers go offline. Officials note that this is not a bankruptcy or forced liquidation situation, so outstanding creditors should still expect to receive payment.
