Report: Chevy Cruze production in Lordstown to restart today

Filed under: Budget , Sedan , Plants/Manufacturing , Chevrolet , GM The Detroit News reports that General Motors will resume full production of the Chevrolet Cruze today, after a supplier issue caused a production snarl at its Lordstown, Ohio facility earlier this week . On Tuesday, the Lordstown facility’s third shift was put on hold, and both the first and second shifts were shortened. Full production will resume when third shift workers arrive tonight, and GM states that employees scheduled to work the first and second shifts on Friday should report at their regularly scheduled times.

Cruze, Soul and Wrangler among America’s 25 Hottest Products for 2011

Filed under: Marketing/Advertising , Chevrolet , Chrysler , GM , Jeep , Kia If you ask us, this 25 Hottest Products for 2011 list in Advertising Age isn’t exactly packed with automotive excitement. But with Dove soap, Malt-O-Meal, and Goldfish crackers also claiming spots, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised that it’s a Chevrolet Cruze , rather than a Camaro headlining the “America’s Hottest Brands” issue. Besides the Cruze, the venerable sister pub to Automotive News points out the Kia Soul and Jeep Wrangler , seemingly more for their marketing campaigns than anything else. Kia’s hamster ads are legendary, while Jeep’s marketing deal with the Call of Duty video game franchise has proven successful.

Official: Sonic and Cruze headlining for Chevy at SEMA

Filed under: SEMA Show , Budget , Sedan , Hatchback , Chevrolet , GM The Chevrolet Sonic and its big sister, the Cruze , have proven to the world that General Motors is once again capable of building class-leading small cars. To showcase these cars in a new light, Chevrolet will be bringing a smattering of Sonics and Cruzes to the upcoming SEMA show, with these models accounting for 60 percent of the brand’s show cars. (Don’t worry, there will still be plenty of Corvettes , Camaros and Silverados , and we’ll have details on those in the coming days.) The 2012 Sonic is the latest and greatest of the Chevrolet small car portfolio, and GM will have 20 different Sonics on display. Here, we see the Sonic Z-Spec I (above) and Z-Spec II (right), showing the different aftermarket options that will be available for the Sonic hatchback

Report: Chevrolet targeting 50 mpg with diesel-powered Cruze

Filed under: Sedan , Chevrolet , GM , Diesel Those of us in the U.S. will have to wait until sometime in 2013 to see the diesel-powered Chevrolet Cruze , but GM insiders seem more than willing to dish out some details on the oil-burning Cruze well in advance of its debut. Ward’s Auto reports that “sources” have confirmed the oil-burning Cruze will achieve a highway fuel economy rating “in the range of 50 miles per gallon.” Additionally, unlike the manual transmission-equipped, 42-mpg rated Chevy Cruze Eco (an automatic Eco is available, but its mpg rating is well below that of the manual ), the diesel Cruze, according to Charlie Klein, GM’s director of global mass, energy and aerodynamics, will be a fuel-sipping sedan regardless of which trans is bolted to the engine. As for that engine, GM has unofficially confirmed that it will indeed be based on the 2.0-liter diesel that’s found under the hood of the Holden Cruze CDX

Honda Civic loses Recommended rating from Consumer Reports [UPDATE]

Filed under: Budget , Sedan , Honda There’s no greater cardinal sin in the automotive world than completely replacing a highly successful model with an inferior machine. According to Consumer Reports , that’s precisely what happened with the 2012 Honda Civic . Says David Champion, senior director of Consumer Reports’ Auto Test Center: “While other models like the Hyundai Elantra have gotten better after being redesigned, the Civic has dropped so much that now it ranks near the bottom of its category.” Just how far has the Civic fallen from CR’s grace?
