Report: Mulally facing pressure to fix Ford tech and quality glitches

Filed under: Technology , Crossover , Ford Ford has had its share of quality issues with its fledgling MyFord Touch technology, and watchdogs like Consumer Reports and J.D. Power have taken notice. Bloomberg reports that Ford CEO Alan Mulally is all too aware of the automaker’s latest technology glitches, saying, “We’ve had just a few issues with some technologies associated with Sync and MyFord Touch.” The “just a few issues” Mulally is referring to include reports of touchscreens blacking out, general complaints about a steep learning curve and a recent crossover ranking by Consumer Reports that placed the 2011 Explorer 17th out of 19 vehicles tested due in large part to the tech.

Our spy photographers have managed to snap a few photos of the 2013 Ford Flex ahead of its debut later this year, and from the looks of things, the vehicle will borrow more than a few styling cues from its platform-mate, the 2011 Explorer . Expect to see a more corporate face, complete with a new grille, angular headlights and a revised front fascia among other tweaks.

Ford cleans up at 2011 Edison Awards, Chevy Volt wins Gold [w/video]

Ford was the big winner, with three gold metals and one silver. Further, CEO Alan Mulally was named a 2011 Edison Achievement Award Winner. Ford won the Applied Technology gold thanks to the inflatable seatbelts that were introduced on the 2011 Explorer .

For those of you who don’t know, JabbaWockeeZ are perhaps the best hip-hop dance crew around right now. If their routines describing the performance of Ford’s engines are anything to go by, 2011 Ford Explorer owners won’t be able to tell any appreciable difference between their car’s 290-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 and the 2010 model’s 292-hp V8. Even with two fewer cylinders, Ford was able to pull the new six to within two horsepower of its older sibling
