Report: Current Subaru WRX and STI to stick around for a couple of years

Should you prefer to go with something wearing a WRX or STI badge , you don’t have to wait, but you’ll just have to be happy with the current version , as Subaru is reportedly holding off on bringing revised examples of the hi-po Impreza sedans and wagons to market.

The Subaru Impreza WRX STI, previously available only as a wagon, is newly offered as a sedan for 2011. Our black-on-black test car looks pretty cool, although there’s nothing subtle about the huge rear wing, which Subaru claims “maximizes the aerodynamic configuration.” I figure it also maximizes your opportunities to be noticed by the police, but what the heck, it’s part and parcel of the WRX STI experience, just like the big hood scoop. The eighteen-inch wheels are also new for 2011 and are lighter.

Subaru offering more powerful WRX STI for UK buyers

Between April 1st and June 30th, buyers can fit their four- or five-door STIs with a power package, good for an additional 20 horsepower and 32 pound-feet of torque. This means the turbocharged 2.5-liter flat-four now puts out 320 hp and 332 lb-ft of twist. What’s more, the torque punch is now delivered at 3400 rpm – 600 rpm sooner than in the standard car.
