The standard version gets 544 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. Opt for the AMG Performance Package and you boost that to 571 hp and 664 lb-ft. All that power doesn’t come with a bigger fuel price, either: at 22 combined miles per gallon with the help of stop/start and the AMG Speedshift MCT seven-speed sport transmission, the new car posts a 25 percent increase in fuel economy over the 6.2-liter beast

Mercedes-Benz unveils 2011 S63 AMG with twin-turbo 5.5L V8 [w/video]

Filed under: Sedan , Performance , Mercedes-Benz , Luxury 2011 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG – Click above for high-res image gallery Engine downsizing has now come to the almost top-of-the-line Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG with the adoption of AMG’s new twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8. The new direct-injected V8 bumps output up from a mere 518 horsepower to 571 horsepower along with generating 663 pound-feet of torque between 2,250 and 3,750 rpm. That’s sufficient to propel this behemoth to 62 mph in just 4.5 seconds in normal trim or 4.4 seconds if you opt for the AMG sports package. The 2011 S63 also swaps out its previous torque converter automatic transmission for the multi-clutch unit from the SL63, a move which should lend it a more sporting feel.

Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Break Concept revealed ahead of Beijing *UPDATED

Filed under: Concept Cars , Performance , Wagon , Mercedes-Benz , Beijing Motor Show , Design/Style , Luxury Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Break Concept – Click above for high-res image gallery Mercedes-Benz may not have invented the idea of a “four-door coupe” with the original CLS back in 2005, but the German automaker can surely be credited with the recent influx of such designs from automakers as varied and far-ranging as BMW , Jaguar and Hyundai . As such, you can be sure that Mercedes is keenly interested in reinventing the look it made so popular in the first place so as to differentiate itself from its competitors. As we reported late last month , it seems likely that Mercedes-Benz will use the upcoming Beijing Motor Show to preview its next-gen CLS, along with the introduction of what appears to be a production-ready shooting break design.

Filed under: New York Auto Show , Minivan/Van , Mercedes-Benz , Luxury 2011 Mercedes-Benz R-Class – Click above for high-res image gallery Today at the 2010 New York Auto Show , Mercedes-Benz showed that it’s still behind the all-but-forgotten “Sports Tourer” when it unveiled the heavily restyled 2011 R-Class . The minivan-that-isn’t-a-minivan has had a rough life up to this point. It was never really marketed well by Mercedes, and the droopy snout never really helped. Like Jennifer Gray though, it’s amazing what a new nose can do for you
