Report: Daimler planning to open new plant in North America

Filed under: China , Plants/Manufacturing , Mercedes-Benz , Nissan Size still matters, but the quest to be number one is also getting more headlines. Mercedes-Benz is the latest to stake its future on taking the top slot, with CEO Dieter Zetsche aiming to be the world’s largest premium maker by 2020. The specific number is 2.7 million vehicles sold that year, which represents an astronomical jump from 2011 sales of 1.26 million vehicles. To home in on that target, Mercedes intends to build factories in China and in North America – either Mexico or the U.S.

Official: Next Ford EcoSport now playing at New Delhi Auto Expo [UPDATE]

Filed under: Concept Cars , Budget , Crossover , Misc. Auto Shows , India , South America , Design/Style While we’ve been consumed with the ramp-up to next week’s Detroit Auto Show , there’s a more pressing matter on the international car events calendar – this week’s New Delhi Auto Expo. Ford Motor Company isn’t overlooking the burgeoning biennial show, and it’s taking the opportunity to reveal its first-ever world debut at the show, the next Ford EcoSport . Debuting with a sliver of show-only frosting (check out those glitzy headlamps), the tiny crossover is about the same size as the Fiesta five-door, and it’s built on the Blue Oval’s new global B-Car architecture.

Official: Bret Michaels selling family truckster and more at Barrett-Jackson

Filed under: Classics , Celebrities As the Poison frontman is wont to sing, every rose has its thorn. Indeed, if the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Bret Michaels sold at the 2011 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction was that flower, his latest consignments are as painful as pricked fingers. Michaels will be offering three vehicles at the sale, to be held January 15-22, 2012.

Driven: Morgan 3 Wheeler

Driven: Morgan 3 Wheeler A twenty-first-century interpretation of a twentieth-century idea. Truth being stranger than fiction, the Morgan Motor Company is officially the largest British-owned carmaker in Britain. Pretty weird stuff for a company that still fashions cars out of ash wood and hand-beaten metal and still operates out of the same set of red brick sheds its founders, an Anglican prebendary and his son, erected in 1918. Even funnier, Morgan has recently reached back into its Edwardian playbook to introduce a new model, the 3 Wheeler, inspired by one of its earliest product lines.

Breaking: Cadillac XTS makes early, unintended appearance [UPDATE]

Filed under: LA Auto Show , Sedan , Cadillac , Design/Style , Luxury What you’re looking at is the production version of the 2013 Cadillac XTS , the full-size luxury yacht that will be doing double duty when it goes on sale next year to replace both the DTS and STS. We were all set to see the XTS debut next week at the LA Auto Show , but Cadillac beat us to the punch when it accidentally slipped the above image into a slide show on the company’s consumer-facing website. The image has since been removed, but as the Internet proves time and again, nothing is ever forgotten. The biggest thing going for the new XTS, besides its literal size, is the debut of Cadillac’s new CUE infotainment system , which we gave you a hands on tour of earlier today
