Filed under: Detroit Auto Show , Convertible , Performance , Porsche , Design/Style , Luxury The Motor City has been blessed with unseasonably warm weather and mostly clear skies this week, so consider it fortuitous that Porsche has gifted the Detroit Auto Show with the global premiere of its 911 Carrera Cabriolet. This topless 911 carries with it a unique top mechanism that comes off like a particularly snug-fitting canvas lid that follows the roofline of the coupe beautifully – Porsche says it carries rigid panels like a folding hardtop along with its fabric top. Report: Ford F-150 EcoBoost hits 100,000 sales

Filed under: Car Buying , Truck , Ford Ford bet big on the combination of light duty pickup trucks and boosted V6 power, and it appears the gamble has paid off. The Detroit News reports that Ford has already reached 100,000 F-150 sales in 2011, just as the automaker promised it would . Overall EcoBoost models accounted for 40 percent of all F-150 sales, which is impressive considering that the boosted mill comes with a $895 price premium compared to the very capable 5.0-liter V8. Still more impressive is the fact that Ford also sold plenty of 3.7-liter V6 models as well, and the overall take rate of V6 engines is over 50 percent on the year

Official: Ford F-150 named 2012 Motor Trend Truck of the Year

Filed under: Truck , Ford The next in the never-ending list of ‘OTYs comes courtesy of Motor Trend and the buff book’s crowning of the 2012 Ford F-150 as its Truck of the Year. Aside from the expansive list of standard and optional features, the F-150′s general fitment and polish, and Ford’s claim that you can spec your workhorse in one of 650,000 different varieties, what seemed to win over the Motor Trend crew more than anything else was its drivetrain. And one engine in particular. While the 5.0-liter V8 was a favorite, after all the judges sampled a Platinum EcoBoost SuperCrew variant fitted with the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6, the vote was unanimous.
