Saab announces plan to head back into Canada with 2011 models

The company just announced that it will once again return to the land of maple syrup and Mounties in 2011. The svelte Swedish machines will be distributed by International Fleet Sales, and both Saab North America and IFS say that so far, around 20 dealers have raised their hands to sell the cars. Our neighbors to the north will be able to sink their teeth into a total of five models once the new dealerships get off the ground, including all of the multiple flavors of the 9-3.

Report: Saab pondering tech partnership with Germans, picks GMAC as official financer

Filed under: Car Buying , Sedan , Wagon , Technology , GM , Saab 2010 Saab 9-3X – Click above for high-res image gallery While newly emancipated Saab has some fresh product in its near-term pipeline, it’s fair to say that the biggest challenge for the Swedish automaker over the long haul will be the development of costly new technologies and platforms. To that end, Spyker CEO Victor Muller has let slip to Automotive News Europe that Saab is actively looking at technology sharing arrangements with other OEMs – and they aren’t just looking in former parent General Motors ‘ direction. More to the point, Muller says that Saab has already been contacted by around a half-dozen OEMS, including “some German brands,” although the unnamed Deutsch companies are said to exclude Volkswagen and Audi . Saab presently has production and intellectual property agreements in place with GM to keep fresh product flowing through the rollout of its next-generation 9-3 in 2012, but after that line launches, it could receive parts developed from outside partners, including things like new powertrains, and potentially down the road, platforms.

The official transfer of ownership from General Motors to the Dutch supercar concern occurred earlier today, and now Saab will get down to the difficult business of becoming profitable. According to Victor Muller, CEO of Spyker Cars, a man who is fast becoming something of a folk hero in Sweden: “Through this acquisition we add approximately 15 euros per share in equity and 60 euros of assets. With a well funded business plan in place we are looking forward to working with Saab’s management on the realization of that plan and bringing exciting new products to our customers
