CES 2011: Audi shows off revised eTron Spyder

Filed under: Concept Cars , Convertible , Hybrid , CES , Audi , Electric , Diesel Audi eTron Spyder – Click above for high-res image gallery Audi CEO Rupert Stadler rolled onto the stage in the same eTron Spyder we saw in Paris , but for the crowd in Sin City, Audi swapped the silver paint for a more delectable red hue. Aside from the color change, everything else remains the same, from the 300-horsepower twin-turbo TDI V6 churning out 479 pound-feet of torque to the front-mounted battery and wrap around windshield. It’s still a looker, although we’re generally in favor of something a little more subtle…

The German manufacturer is planning to expand the solar panel system at its facility in Ingolstadt so that the electric vehicle’s batteries may be charged using clean, renewable energy from the sun. Audi says that by the end of the year, it hopes to cover some 80,730 square feet of the plant’s roof with new photovoltaic panels. By the end of the project, Audi says it will have nearly 205,000 square feet of its German manufacturing facility’s roof covered with the solar cells

Oh, Crap: Audi mucks up e-tron name in French

Filed under: Concept Cars , Coupe , Performance , Audi , Electric Audi e-tron Detroit Concept – Click above for high-res image gallery There’s a lot of allure surrounding Audi’s all-electric e-tron . We’ve seen prototypes out and about on public roads and collected a fair share of photo galleries from different auto shows. Our comrades at AutoblogGreen even had the chance to ride shotgun in the R8-based electric rocket. But until now we haven’t thought much about Audi’s choice of nomenclature for its torque-tastic supercar, and according to Green Car Reports, Audi may have fudged this one…

Audi A1 e-tron runs like Volt, advances ER-EV concept

Filed under: Concept Cars , Hybrid , Geneva Motor Show , Hatchback , Audi , Electric Audi A1 e-tron concept – Click above for high-res image gallery After teasing us with a few goodies yesterday, Audi has just released technical details on its new A1 e-tron concept that debuts later today at the Geneva Motor Show . As we already knew, the A1 uses an extended range electric architecture like the Chevrolet Volt , but with a compact and power-dense Wankel rotary engine/generator to keep the battery alive after power from the grid is depleted. The diagrams released by Audi show that the Wankel is mounted in the car’s rear behind the T-shaped battery pack that sits mostly under the rear seat. The lithium ion battery pack has a capacity of 12 kilowatt-hours, which is claimed to provide about 30 miles of range on a charge

Detroit 2010: Audi e-tron take zwei… or drei? [w/video]

Filed under: Concept Cars , Detroit Auto Show , Coupe , Audi , Electric Audi e-tron Detroit Concept – Click above for high-res image gallery Audi is serious about EVs. Over the last four months, the four-ringed automaker has put out three (well, really 2.5) electric vehicle concepts: the first e-tron in Frankfurt , a repainted, slightly modified version in LA , and now this, the third e-tron – easily the best iteration to date. Slightly shorter yet just as wide as its predecessors, the Motown e-tron is a refined version of the concepts that came before it, with electric motors driving each wheel and putting out a total of 204 horsepower and 1,955 pound-feet of torque ( through some creative mathematics ).
