Official: AMP to bring electrified American SUV to Detroit

Filed under: Detroit Auto Show , SUV , Technology , Electric Amp Electric Vehicles is headed to the Detroit Auto Show next month with a new electric vehicle . The company is keeping the specifics of the model to itself at the moment, but we do know that the next battery-operated offering from the company will make use of an “iconic American SUV” as its platform. If we were the betting types, we’d put our hardly-earned dollars on the company pulling the sheets back on a Jeep Grand Cherokee EV. Amp has already unveiled an electrified Mercedes-Benz ML , and the two heavyweight bruisers share a common ancestry

Official: 2013 Chevy Mailbu Eco will start at $25,995* and offer 38 highway mpg

Filed under: Hybrid , Sedan , Chevrolet Who will want to buy a brand-new, nicely equipped 2013 Chevy Malibu Eco for $25,995? If you peruse General Motors’ press release, then you may think it’s people who are cross-shopping a Volkswagen Passat TDI or a Hyundai Sonata Hybrid , a Toyota Camry Hybrid or a Ford Fusion Hybrid . These are the vehicles that GM helpfully points out cost more than the new Malibu, and the green competition is completely intentional. The Eco trim level, coming in the first quarter of 2012, will be the first 2013 Malibu released and gets 26 miles per gallon in the city and 38 mpg on the highway (GM estimates).

Coda announces "price drop," starts production of all-electric Sedan with larger battery

Filed under: Car Buying , Sedan , Plants/Manufacturing , Electric Coda may not have a new model to show off at the 2011 LA Auto Show , but the company can still make news with a price drop. Or with something that is a price drop in all but name. In September 2010, Coda said its all-electric Sedan would cost $44,900 . Today, that was refined downward to a more-reasonable $39,900, putting the car somewhat closer to parity with the Ford Focus Electric (which starts at $39,200).

Los Angeles: Honda Fit EV available in 2012 for lease only, $399 per month

Filed under: LA Auto Show , Hatchback , Honda , Electric The idea of a all-electric Honda Fit is nothing new, but the details of the production version that will come to the United States next summer are, well, also nothing new. As announced today, the all-electric Fit will only be available through a lease program, probably for $399 per month. What’s interesting is that the car does have an MSRP of $36,625, and multiple Honda reps milling around the stand after the official unveiling said that the lease-only deal is what’s being announced today but that Honda listens to its customers. So, anyone who likes the idea of driving a Fit EV for a long time without having to give it back should let Honda know

This production/non-production saga continues with Green Car Reports claiming “an inside source at General Motors” has confirmed the Converj is back on, meaning Cadillac is gearing up to launch the plug-in hybrid in 2013 or 2014.
