Report: Cadillac may build two-seat roadster off ATS

Filed under: Detroit Auto Show , Convertible , Cadillac , Luxury It’s been a while since Cadillac had a roadster in its product portfolio. Since the XLR went out of production at the end of 2009, to be precise. But while the CTS Coupe (and its high-performance counterpart, the CTS-V Coupe ) may fill the niche for a svelte wreath-badged two-door, Cadillac may be planning on something a little more windy – and more affordable – in the near future. According to our compatriots over at Inside Line, Cadillac is considering spinning a two-seat roadster off the rear-wheel-drive platform of the new ATS sedan.

Report: BMW plan to provide 4,000 cars to Olympic dignitaries in London triggers controversy

Filed under: Sedan , Etc. , BMW , UK , Luxury The problem when a bunch of bigwigs want to do something good for the environment is that they won’t stop being bigwigs in order to do it. Getting a lot of VIPs together means a lot of private jets and limousines, and next thing you know, you’ve got a situation like the 2009 climate change conference in Copenhagen, when it only took a few days for 15,000 delegates to create as much filth as the town of Middlesbrough’s 142,500 inhabitants. According to the UK’s Daily Mail , the 2012 London Olympics may be headed down the same carbon trail, with sponsor BMW planning to ship 4,000 cars to The City for use by dignitaries.

Report: BMW bringing Z4 GT3 to North America, but still no Z4 M

Filed under: Convertible , Performance , BMW , Racing There’s something rotten in the state of Bavaria when BMW ‘s M division is more keen to tune out crossovers than roadsters. While the previous-generation Z4 and the Z3 that preceded it both had M versions, the current Z4 has been conspicuously absent from the hall’s of the BMW performance division. That could all change if the bean-counters see a good business case for a Z4 M, but in the meantime we’re reportedly slated to get something even crazier: the V8-powered Z4 GT3. The competition-spec model loses the folding roof in favor of a fixed one reinforced by a full roll cage.
