Report: Saab owners, employees, dealers and suppliers trying to figure out what comes next [w/video]

Filed under: Europe , Government/Legal , Videos , Saab , Earnings/Financials They’re called uncharted waters, and everyone who has anything to do with Saab is floating in them. It’s been a while since a global, decades-old automotive brand went bankrupt and wasn’t rescued or provided immediate after-death care by a corporate parent, but that’s the case with Saab, and no one’s quite sure – not the company itself, nor dealers, nor employees, and certainly not customers – how this plays out. There’s the outside chance that another (presumably non-Chinese) company could swoop in and purchase the brand whole before the liquidation process takes hold, but as this didn’t happen earlier, there’s little reason to think that a white knight can be found at this late date. The bankruptcy has been filed and two receivers have been named, but there isn’t even a timetable for who’s going to get what, or what to do while everyone waits.

2012 Chevrolet Cruze 2LT

2012 Chevrolet Cruze 2LT The Cruze has been a homerun for Chevy. The Cruze has been a homerun for Chevy, repeatedly appearing in the top of the sales chart for the compact class and giving the Toyota Corolla a run for its money as reigning champ of the segment’s sales. (Through November, the Cruze was only down by 4193 units to the number-one-selling Corolla among all compacts.) It’s no surprise that the Cruze has been popular with the car-buying public thanks to its best-in-class interior, handsome design, and good pricing. (In comparison, only the Hyundai Elantra and Mazda 3 are cheaper when similarly equipped, and by less than $1000.) The turbocharged four-cylinder is lively and peppy – especially around town – but the Cruze is not nearly as refined as the Ford Focus, nor does it feel as planted as the Focus, the 3, or the Elantra on the highway

Report: Did Volkswagen tamper with its efficiency graph in Germany?

Filed under: Car Buying , Etc. , Europe , Volkswagen Every once in a while you’ll find an accidental lie on the Internet… A group of German organizations created a label applied to every new car sold in that country that grades it based on CO2 usage. The energy-efficiency categories run from A+ to G, with the greenest cars at the top and the lowest cars falling into the deep red of the seventh letter of the alphabet.
