Report: Fiat moving planned production of Chrysler Sebring back to U.S.

Filed under: Sedan , Plants/Manufacturing , Chrysler , Dodge , Fiat 2009 Chrysler 200C concept – Click above for high-res image gallery Following the recent news that Chrysler will re-hire 900 workers and add a second shift back at its Sterling Heights, MI assembly plant comes word that the next-generation replacements for the Sebring and Dodge Avenger will be produced there. Supposedly, Fiat had plans to build the cars in Turin, Italy along with the Alfa Romeo Giulia , but could not reach a suitable agreement with its unions on work rules. The idea of building the mid-size sedans in Italy for export to North America seemed highly implausible anyhow. The family sedan segment is among the most competitive in this market and pricing pressures are tough enough without factoring in exchange rates

Spy Shots: Dodge Avenger facelift caught

Filed under: Spy Photos , Budget , Sedan , Dodge We’ve yet to glean any hard facts about what Chrysler has planned for an Avenger / Sebring replacement. While a few scant rumors have cropped up that hint to the possibility of a partnership with Nissan , we simply haven’t heard anything substantial. You’ll find few souls out there who argue that the malaise twins aren’t in serious need of some updating, and judging from a handful of spy shot nabbed by the crew at Secret New Cars, it may be awhile before we see any significant changes to the chassis as a whole. For now, it appears that Chrysler is hoping the rental car buying public will be satisfied with just a nosejob.

Report: Chrysler Sebring convertible to survive

Filed under: Convertible , Chrysler Chrysler Sebring Convertible – Click above for high-res image gallery Much to our collective surprise, Chrysler’s new Italian overlords have reportedly decided to keep the Sebring convertible alive and even give it a major refresh early next year. The Sebring and Dodge Avenger sedans are due to get their updates before the end of this year, and the Sebring could yet receive a new name. Most of those changes including reworked suspensions and improved interiors, and the company’s new Pentastar V6 will migrate into the droptop in the new year. As you may recall, back in the 1990s, the Sebring was consistently the top-selling convertible in America thanks to its reasonable price, relatively attractive styling and seating for four.
