Followup: Airbag recall forces Honda past Toyota in total recalls for 2012

Filed under: Recalls , Safety , Acura , Honda , Toyota Honda has surpassed Toyota for the largest number of recalled vehicles in 2011. Wards Auto reports that Honda expanded an airbag recall to encompass a total of 2.5 million million vehicles last year, pushing the total number of recalled units to 3.9 million vehicles over 17 campaigns. Previous estimates put Toyota at the head of the recall pile with 13 campaigns covering 3.5 million vehicles.

After an extremely successful launch in the late 1980s, Honda’s luxury marque truly hit high gear in the mid 2000s with such successful models as the TL sedan and MDX crossover. And then things went south with a fury that sent the automaker reeling into regroup mode.

Detroit: 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo is a mighty mite

Filed under: Detroit Auto Show , Budget , Performance , Hatchback , Hyundai , Design/Style The Hyundai Veloster got off to a solid commercial and critical start in 2011, and while the eccentric hatchback has only been on the market for a few months, it’s already found its fair share of friends, outselling competitors like the Honda CR-Z and Scion tC straight away. We can see why – Veloster offers a unique mix of cut-price mix of funkiness, utility, connectivity and efficiency. However, it’s also fair to say that its direct-injected 1.6-liter Gamma four-cylinder skews far more eco than sport.

We have a lot to tell you about the 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo, but much of it has to wait until the car is revealed tomorrow afternoon at the Detroit Auto Show . What we can show and tell you, what’s already out and about on the Internet, are these three images and the basic specs below. Note that the standard Veloster’s 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine produces only 138 horsepower and 123 lb-ft of torque

Video: Honda Civic gets frisky with Caddy in strange accident

Filed under: Sedan , Videos , Cadillac , Honda , Humor This crash isn’t as odd as the California melee that saw a Saturn end up on an apartment roof , but it’s still a little out of the ordinary. Apparently a driver in Wellesley, Mass. missed a curb, and wound up driving up and over a Cadillac CTS that was inside a parking structure. We’re a little baffled as to how this all went down, and the Wellesley police don’t give us any clues in their video.
