Official: BMW updates 2013 X6, introduces M Performance Package

Filed under: Performance , Crossover , BMW , Luxury BMW , which still insists on using the term Sports Activity Coupe to describe its least practical ‘ute, has updated its X6 for the 2013 model year. And with good reason – BMW says it has sold over 20,000 X6 crossovers in the States since its launch three years ago and over 150,000 worldwide, making it an important model for the German automaker. First and foremost, the 2013 X6 offers available power from both the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline six and 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 through its M Performance Package (which is not the same thing as the X6M that carries on for 2013 with its 555-horsepower V8 and six-speed automatic transmission). By ticking he appropriate box on the order sheet, the X6 xDrive35i is blessed with 315 horsepower (a gain of 15 over stock) and 330 pound-feet of torque (a 30-lb-ft gain).

Report: Detroit Police give up on car theft, ban street parking to curb break-ins

Filed under: Government/Legal Full disclosure: Two of this author’s friends had their cars broken into in downtown Detroit last week. These incidents happened within days of each other along the same city block in the entertainment district behind Detroit’s Fillmore and Fox theaters – the exact area that this story references. Detroit is often painted in a bad light when it comes to things like public safety, and while your author – a proud Detroit resident – will gladly shout praise for The D any day of the week, the truth is, it’s not just my friends who have been wronged. A rash of break-ins have been reported in this area of Detroit over the past couple of weeks.

A Tale Of Two Time Travelers: 2012 Volkswagen Passat TDI

A Tale Of Two Time Travelers: 2012 Volkswagen Passat TDI The new Tennessee-built Passat meets an ancient Pennsylvania-built Rabbit. “Welcome to New Stanton,” the sign cheerfully announces, but reality speaks a different language. Although the main drag is lined with many of the same franchises that were around in better days, prosperity has long since checked out and moved on to greener pastures. In the late 1970s, however, New Stanton, Pennsylvania, was a model of economic growth.

Worst of the Worst: AOL Autos rolls out its own list

Filed under: Classics , Humor In the interest of full disclosure, that’s my byline on AOL Autos’ list of the worst cars from 50 automakers . Yes, it’s not the only such list we’ve seen recently , and you are of course strongly encouraged to let me have it in the comments. Anyone who calls out 50 different automotive brands for their worst FAIL moments had better have thick skin, which I do. I also have a sense of humor – and not for a minute do I or anyone else at our sister site that weighed in on the list think it is as definitive as it is funny.
