In the span of just a few years, the British automaker has launched forays into Formula One , IndyCar , endurance sportscar racing and even karting , all with its own factory-backed works initiatives. And in true Lotus style, it’s not showing any signs of slowing down any time soon.

Report: Detroit Auto Show will be crammed into Cobo Hall until 2017

Filed under: Detroit Auto Show Automotive News reports that the Detroit Auto Show will remain in the Cobo Center for the next five years. Rod Alberts, executive director of the North American International Auto Show, and Thom Connors, Cobo Center general manager, signed a contract that will keep the show at Cobo through 2017. The report says the deal could mean $1.75 billion in combined economic impact for southeast Michigan . While the Cobo Center has seen significant expansion in recent years, voices from around the automotive industry had called for the show’s move to a new venue.

Report: Baltimore terminates IndyCar race contract

Filed under: Motorsports Racing fans who enjoyed the spectacle of open-wheel single-seaters racing around Baltimore’s Inner Harbor and past Camden Yards where the Orioles and the Ravens play may be disheartened to read of the latest developments. But take heart: it ain’t over, they say, until the fat lady sings, and in this case she appears only to have taken a brief intermission. The future of the Baltimore Grand Prix (an IndyCar race, not to be confused with Formula 1 grands prix that typically take the host country’s, not the host city’s name) has been in jeopardy for several months now. As with many things, the issue boiled down to money: while most communities support such racing events financially with public funds, the organizers of the Baltimore Grand Prix were expected to remunerate the city to the tune of $1.5 million.
