Report: Supreme Court: Feds not allowed to use GPS on autos without warrant

Filed under: Government/Legal , Technology , Police/Emergency Law enforcement agencies are now required to obtain a warrant before attaching a GPS device to a vehicle. The Detroit News reports the Supreme Court unanimously ruled today that the Justice Department was wrong when it argued that its agents didn’t need permission to track private citizens without their knowledge. The case in question centered around Antoine Jones, a Washington, D.C.

Report: PSA: Some states now using school bus-mounted traffic cameras

Filed under: Government/Legal , Safety , Technology City councils and state legislatures across the country are debating and passing initiatives to put traffic cameras on school buses . Rick Gresham, transportation director for the Cobb County school district in Georgia, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that 1,100 motorists pass his school buses when the stop sign paddle is out every single day. The state of Maryland reported 7,200 such incidents in one day last year. For all the folks who want to see that bus-riding children get to class and home safely, that’s a problem

The proceeding pits one Eric Lux (CEO of Genii Capital that owns part of Lotus Renault GP) against Adrian Sutil (a veteran grand prix driver who most recently drove for Force India ) over an alleged fight in a Shanghai night club. Now, most of us have been there and done that, but the details of this particular incident remain scarce. Apparently, during the altercation, Sutil cut Lux’s neck with a broken bottle

Volkswagen Up! five-door hits the patent office

Filed under: Budget , Etc. , Europe , Crossover , Hatchback , Volkswagen Images of a five-door version of the Volkswagen Up! have surfaced courtesy of a European patent office. The German automaker confirmed a five-door version of the pint-sized vehicle was headed to market, and Volkswagen even went so far as to show off the Cross Up! Concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show . Judging by the patent photo, the production version of the five-door Up! will stick fairly close to the concept and will ride on a similarly tall suspension.
