Breaking: The Car Show is cancelled

Filed under: Celebrities Word around the internetz today is that SPEED channel’s The Car Show has been cancelled and will not be returning for a second season. The Car Show debuted last July 13 on SPEED and was seen by many enthusiasts as that channel’s answer to the U.S. version of Top Gear on The History Channel, which we learned a few months ago was picked up for a second season . The Car Show leaves behind its panel of hosts, which included comedian and car guy Adam Carolla (who moves on to Celebrity Apprentice with Michael Andretti and Paul Teutel Sr.

Report: Dan Neil calls BMW 1M Coupe ugly… is he right? [w/poll]

Filed under: Coupe , Performance , BMW , Celebrities , Design/Style , Luxury Dan Neil, car critic at The Wall Street Journal and The Car Show presenter, is pretty smitten with the BMW 1 Series M Coupe , at least on most fronts. As a devotee of the E36 M3 , Neil is happy to see that the fairly lightweight coupe comes with an honest inline six-cylinder engine under the hood, even with its forced-induction shenanigans. And the six-speed manual transmission with its excellent clutch and solid shifter apparently warranted spilling some ink over as well, but not all is right in the land of baby M models. According to Neil, the 1 Series M Coupe is “one of the ugliest, most disturbingly wrong car designs in modern history.” As the locals are fond of saying; them’s some strong words.

Report: Tesla Model S Sport to rival BMW M5, 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds

Filed under: Technology , Hatchback , Tesla , Electric A high-performance version of the zero-emissions Tesla Model S sedan will reportedly be available immediately from the vehicle’s launch in 2012 , giving Tesla a rival to the ultimate of Ultimate Driving Machines: the BMW M5 . Tesla chief executive officer Elon Musk reportedly confirmed the Model S Sport launch alongside the unveiling of the near-production-ready electric sedan at an exclusive event for Model S reservation holders in Silicon Valley, CA. According to Green Car Reports, Musk says the $80,000 high-performance version of the Model S will be offered with a battery pack sized at 85-kWh to give the sedan a 300-mile range .
