Official: Ford reveals fresh new face for its 2013 Fusion NASCAR racer

Filed under: Ford , Design/Style , Racing Win on Sunday, sell on Monday. It’s a marketing motto nearly as old as racing itself, but while today’s NASCAR stock cars may have about as much in common with the cars they represent as a Halloween superhero costume from Walmart will actually give your kid superpowers, NASCAR remains the biggest spectator sport in America. So you can imagine that participating automakers would think themselves foolish to pass up the opportunity to make the connection in fans’ eyes to cars they can actually buy at their local dealership.

Official: Porsche approves development of third-generation 911 GT3 R Hybrid

Filed under: Motorsports , Hybrid , Performance , Technology , Porsche , Racing Porsche has announced that it will continue development on its innovative 911 GT3 R Hybrid , delivering a new third-generation model in 2012 in an effort “…to gain extra practical experience under racing conditions and make the hybrid drive even more efficient.” The rolling race laboratory, as the automaker prefers to call it, ran the 2011 season in second-generation trim. With a curb weight of just 2,866 pounds and total system power of 672 horsepower, the all-wheel-drive Porsche GT3 R Hybrid 2.0 accelerated to 60 mph in about 2.5 seconds. We drove Porsche’s 911 GT3 R Hybrid 2.0 at the famed Estoril race circuit outside of Lisbon, Portugal, just last month

The 458 Grand Am borrows heavily from the GT3 version of the supercar, though with an eye towards competition here in the States. Like the GT3, the Grand Am car was prepared for battle by the same house that’s been responsible for race-bred Ferrari models since the 288 GTO: Michelotto Automobili. Expect to see the cars share plenty of safety and performance hardware when the 458 Grand Am bows at the Daytona 24 Hours in January.
