Report: Ex-BMW design boss Bangle writes book, launches contest

Filed under: Etc. , Design/Style Chris Bangle’s latest novel idea is, in fact, an actual novel. The designer has penned fiction tome called Peter Teufel, A Tale of Car Design in 3 Parts . There’s more to the work than Bangle laying out a potential future of transportation via the Teufel character’s story.

By Design: Land Rover DC100 Sport Back to basics with Byzantine boxes. As a designer, Gerry McGovern is rather like American muscle cars of yore: neither handles curves too well, but give them a straight line and there’s no catching them. His MGF roadster and various Lincoln concepts were less than convincing, but his multiple off-road designs have been outstanding. From the highly successful Land Rover Freelander — Europe’s four-by-four best-seller from 1997 to 2002 — to the terrific Range Rover Evoque, his Land Rover designs are winners.

Unfortunately, we don’t, so we’ll settle for playing with Ferrari’s latest online configurator instead. Just launched for the 458 Spider, it lets would-be buyers and dreamers spec out their roadster with 38 colors, six wheel designs, and dozens of exterior and interior trim options to choose from. Detroit: Ford Fusion, Lexus LF-LC win Eyes on Design awards

Filed under: Concept Cars , Detroit Auto Show , Ford , Lexus , Design/Style Every year at the Detroit Auto Show , the Eyes on Design awards honors the best designs among production vehicles and concepts debuting that year. Unlike, say, the North American International Car and Truck of the Year awards , the only vehicles eligible for an Eyes on Design award are the ones that introduce themselves to the world – well, really just North America – in Detroit. What’s particularly interesting is that the judges for these two awards (one for production vehicles and the other for concepts) are all active or retired designers themselves, so they know a little something about the topic.
