Report: Chevy stretched Sonic sedan because it looked funny

Filed under: Budget , Sedan , Chevrolet , Design/Style If you think the Chevrolet Sonic sedan looks a bit abbreviated now, you should have seen it before General Motors stretched the vehicle. Take a good look at the spec sheets for the Sonic hatch and Sonic sedan, and you’ll likely notice the four-door is over a foot longer than its twin. According to Automotive News, GM felt that early design attempts at the sedan bodystyle were too stubby looking. While the four-door was always intended to be somewhat longer than the hatch, designers rolled in additional space in the vehicle’s rump to help situate the vehicle’s proportions

Report: Nissan’s all-gamer driving team earns podium finish at 24 Hours of Dubai

Filed under: Motorsports , Coupe , Performance , Nissan , Toys/Games , Middle East , Racing Psychology researchers at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in Illinois have discovered a funny thing about podium finishers. Often, the happiest person on stage is the one with the bronze medal around his or her neck. Despite having missed first place by two spots, competitors on the lowest rung of the podium tend to find themselves deep in the throes of counterfactual thinking. They aren’t focused on how close they were to winning an event; instead, the third-place competitors are thinking about just how close they came to missing the podium entirely

Report: Crashed Ferrari Enzo to lead 20-car return to Targa Newfoundland [w/video]

Filed under: Motorsports , Videos , Ferrari , Canada Newfoundland is a bit of a funny place. It’s the easternmost point of the North American continent, has its own half time zone, was the last province to join Canadian confederation (having existed as a British colony until 1949) and has its own linguistic dialects. It’s also the kind of place where you can fail upwards, it seems. Particularly when driving a customized Ferrari Enzo

Report: Latest group that Jeremy Clarkson has offended? Indians

Filed under: Europe , Earnings/Financials , Celebrities , India Pretty much every time Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson opens his mouth these days, someone takes offense, which does make it hard to tell whether Clarkson is actually offensive. The latest complaints have come after the Top Gear Christmas special , in which Clarkson and his posse go to India on a “trade mission.” According to The Telegraph , the BBC has received 23 complaints about the show, in which Clarkson is charged with making insensitive remarks about Indian clothing, trains, food and history. Clarkson’s “funny” bits on the show included dropping his pants in front of Indian dignitaries and outfitting a Jaguar XJS with a toilet seat and then driving around Indian slums, according to the report.

Worst of the Worst: AOL Autos rolls out its own list

Filed under: Classics , Humor In the interest of full disclosure, that’s my byline on AOL Autos’ list of the worst cars from 50 automakers . Yes, it’s not the only such list we’ve seen recently , and you are of course strongly encouraged to let me have it in the comments. Anyone who calls out 50 different automotive brands for their worst FAIL moments had better have thick skin, which I do. I also have a sense of humor – and not for a minute do I or anyone else at our sister site that weighed in on the list think it is as definitive as it is funny.
