Report: Scion considering Daihatsu-based pickup for US?

Filed under: Truck , Work , Scion , Rumormill The mini-truck is dead. Long live the mini-truck! We aren’t alone in our love for compact cargo haulers. AutoGuide recently took the time to sit down with Jack Hollis, the vice president of Scion , who apparently shares our affinity for the smallest of pickups. While Hollis didn’t go so far as to say that a Scion pickup was first on his list of things to do, he did mention that he’s very interested in the idea and that a lot of Scion customers are, as well.

Video: SSC runs Tuatara prototype from 0-200 in under 16 seconds

Filed under: Coupe , Performance , Videos Shelby Super Cars surprised everyone when its Utlimate Aero managed to show the Bugatti Veyron a thing or two. This without the massive development budget that Volkswagen put in to developing the Veyron, mind you. But if its first shot was impressive, its follow-up should prove even more so. Following a long line of unpronounceable supercar names, the Tuatara will drive well past its predecessor’s rather derivative styling with a new shape penned by celebrated automotive designer Jason Castriota

Video: Mother of all Hot Wheels tracks leaves us speechless, if real [w/poll]

Filed under: Etc. , Videos , Toys/Games We’ll admit it, this video isn’t exactly new, but it’s the first time we’re seeing it and, honestly, we’re stunned. The creators have dubbed this “The Mother of All Hot Wheels Tracks,” and after sitting at our desks with wide eyes and dropped jaws, we’re inclined to agree. And not just because it’s amazing to watch a little toy car run a claimed 2,000-foot gauntlet of orange plastic – it’s remarkable from a construction standpoint, too.

Report: Suzuki to end alliance with Volkswagen

Filed under: Technology , Suzuki , Volkswagen We don’t know how you say “Throw down the gauntlet” in Japanese, but Suzuki CEO Osamu Suzuki has apparently gone and done it. Claiming that his company’s relationship with Volkswagen has the potential to become a “ball and chain” if it continues it current course, Suzuki apparently sees so little hope of remedy that he has suggested an amicable separation. Suzuki is upset about a number of recent events, from VW’s claim in its annual report that it could influence operational decisions at Suzuki, to VW’s breach-of-contract accusations over Suzuki buying diesels from Fiat , to the fact that in two years there hasn’t been a single joint project. VW hasn’t made any mention of walking away from the ‘partnership,’ instead repeatedly saying that it is reviewing the union.

Report: Illinois town builds own track for consumer test drives

Filed under: Car Buying , Etc. If you’re shopping for a vehicle near Naperville, Illinois, you may have a chance to put your possible purchases through the gauntlet on at a new facility. The town has joined forces with local dealers to create a driving course that would reduce the number of test drives on public streets and give buyers a better sense of the type of vehicle they were purchasing before they signed on the dotted line. The course features a variety of pavement types, a small parking area and even a sprinkler system to allow for foul-weather evaluations
