Filed under: Etc. , Government/Legal , Chrysler , GM , Earnings/Financials Steven Rattner , who headed up the Obama Administration’s Auto Task Force during the quick-rinse bankruptcies of Chrysler and General Motors , is more pleased with the success of the auto bailouts than he ever thought he would be. “Overhaul,” Rattner’s controversial memoir of his time heading up Team Auto and navigating the murky Beltway waters is now out in paperback with a new epilogue that showers high praise on Sergio Marchionne and the efforts Chrysler has made, as well as recounting getting misty watching the new General Motors start trading on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. Throughout “Overhaul,” it’s clear that Chrysler almost didn’t make it, which makes the latest news of a $212 million quarterly profit in Auburn Hills all the more incredible to Rattner

Breaking: GM and UAW reach tentative labor agreement [UPDATED]

Specifics of the four-year contract, agreed upon last night at around 11:00 PM, have not been released, but in an official announcement on its website, the UAW says that the deal includes improvements in both health-care coverage and profit sharing for its 48,500 GM workers. UAW boss Bob King also said that the proposed contract will lead to the rehiring of laid-off workers, the creation of new jobs, and the repatriation of some jobs that had been moved offshore. In its coverage of the GM/UAW labor agreement, Bloomberg says that it’s not yet clear whether higher-than-usual signing bonuses will be used to help ensure the contract’s acceptance by the union rank and file

Report: Chevrolet looking to trademark "Crossvolt" moniker

Filed under: Concept Cars , Hybrid , Crossover , Chevrolet , Beijing Motor Show 2010 Chevrolet Volt MPV5 Concept – Click above for high-res image gallery General Motors has submitted an application to trademark “Crossvolt” as a possible name for the bigger, MPV-style version of the Chevrolet Volt that’s in the works. Chevrolet’s patent application for the Crossvolt handle doesn’t mean it’s settled on a name for the family-friendly plug-in just yet. To keep us guessing, Chevrolet also has trademarks pending on the Chevrolet Amp and Chevrolet Strobe names as well. Whatever the General decides to call its enlarged Volt, it will likely wind up looking similar to the Volt MPV5 Concept Chevrolet revealed at last year’s Beijing Motor Show
