Today’s Congressional hearing over the Chevrolet Volt fire and the resulting investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration turned out to be contentious. The hearing took place in the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform’s Subcommittee on Regulatory Affairs, Stimulus Oversight and Government Spending. Just from the title of the event – “Volt Vehicle Fire: What did NHTSA Know and When Did They Know It?” – it was plain to see that chairman Darrell Issa was not looking to mess around

Report: Supreme Court: Feds not allowed to use GPS on autos without warrant

Filed under: Government/Legal , Technology , Police/Emergency Law enforcement agencies are now required to obtain a warrant before attaching a GPS device to a vehicle. The Detroit News reports the Supreme Court unanimously ruled today that the Justice Department was wrong when it argued that its agents didn’t need permission to track private citizens without their knowledge. The case in question centered around Antoine Jones, a Washington, D.C.

Report: One-off Mercedes 500K barn find discovered in South Central, LA salvage yard

Yet that’s been happening more regularly of late, and writer Michael Mraz has found another example in South Central, Los Angeles: a one-of-one Mercedes-Benz 1935 Caracciola 500K built especially for Silver Arrows race driver Rudolph Caraccioloa. It is pictured above in better days, after having been restored and displayed on the lawn at the Pebble Beach concours in the late 1970s.

Filed under: Cadillac , Lincoln Cadillac is getting ready to launch the much anticipated rear-drive ATS and new flagship XTS this year. The Lincoln MKZ concept shown at this month’s Detroit Auto Show was very well received, and will be followed by six more new and refreshed vehicles by 2014. Earlier this year, General Motors CEO Dan Akerson told reporters he thought “holy water” should be sprinkled on the Lincoln brand.
