BMW announces end of M6 production

BMW has just announced that it has ceased production of both the M6 coupe and convertible. The uniquely styled GT cars primarily found favor here in the U.S., with a total of 3,528 of the hardtops and 3,247 convertibles sold on American soil.

BMW M3 Pure Edition comes from a Land Down Under

It’s the land of the V8 Supercars series, Holden Commodores, FPV Falcons, Eric Bana’s beloved beast and the country that gave us back the Pontiac GTO and the underpinnings for the latest Chevy Camaro . And with the Germans leading the charge these days with the likes of the BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG , it’s only fitting that the Land Down Under should get its own special edition. Following the release of the Frozen Gray edition and word of the upcoming Tiger edition for China comes news of a special M3 just for Australia.

2012 Ford Focus EV to use liquid-cooled lithium-polymer battery

Filed under: Sedan , Technology , Hatchback , Electric Ford Focus EV – Click above for high-res image gallery When the 2112 Ford Focus Electric debuts in late 2011, it and the Chevrolet Volt will have a common feature in addition to their LG Chem lithium polymer cells . Ford confirms that the Focus EV will employ a liquid-cooled battery pack with automatic thermal management, just like the Chevy . Ford opted for active thermal management solution in order to help maximize the Focus EV’s battery performance and lifespan. By protecting the battery from overheating, the system can help prevent the development of cracks in the electrodes.

Mercedes-Benz updates Mbrace app with ‘Concierge’ service

Filed under: Technology , Mercedes-Benz , Luxury Mercedes-Benz and its partners at Hughes Telematics have released an updated version of its Mbrace app for the iPhone, and 2.0 brings along a new line of location-based services. In addition to the usual array of safety and convenience features (locking and unlocking doors, finding the Benz in a parking lot, etc.), the app now includes Mercedes-Benz’ Concierge service which can pull down everything from driving directions and traffic updates to movie times and restaurant listings and then ports them directly into the navigation system. The Roadside Assistance program has also undergone a rework and Mbrace Plus subscribers can download it now from the App Store . Full details in the press blast below the fold .
