Filed under: Coupe , Performance , Videos , Lotus Lotus would like to sell more Evoras, and it’s no secret that there are some customers who want to buy them, if not for the lack of an automatic transmission standing in the way. That hurdle’s been cleared for 2012, with the Evora receiving the six-speed automatic that Lotus calls IPS, for Intelligent Precision Shift. Mechanically it is the same Aisin unit found in the Toyota Camry (paired with a supercharged version of Toyota ‘s 3.5-liter V6) upgraded with Lotus electronics and actuators.

Report: Car and Driver Lightning Lap is back, throws two trucks into the mix [w/video]

Filed under: Videos , Comparisons Car and Driver is back with its annual Lightning Lap roundup for a sixth year, with 20 of the world’s best vehicles taking to Virginia International Raceway to lay down the quickest time around VIR’s 4.1-mile Grand West Course. Included in this year’s running is a suitably diverse spread of sports cars and sedans, ranging from the lowly Volkswagen Jetta GLI to the formidable Porsche Panamera Turbo S – a difference of 350 horsepower and over $168,000. And, just to add a bit more spice to the festivities, C/D introduced a new class (LLT) to include two trucks in the running: the BMW X5 M and Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 . But what C/D gives, it taketh away.

Official: Le Mans Series opens up to new challengers with GTC class

Filed under: Motorsports If it seems to you that just about every year the powers-that-be change the classes in Le Mans racing, well, you’re not far off. The racing categories for various vehicles is constantly in flux, with organizers at the ACO forever seeking out the right balance between various categories to keep the racing action competitive. And so it should come as little surprise that the ACO has tweaked the regs yet again for the 2012 championship. Following the streamlining of various GT classes into one GTE category, the ACO is preparing to launch a new GTC class that will allow less heavily modified vehicles to compete against each other amidst all the purpose-built racers

Lotus Evora S GP Edition bows in UK

In honor of the Lotus Renault Formula One Grand Prix team, the company plans to produce just three examples of the Lotus Evora S GP Edition. Each vehicle will pack all the usual goodies tied to the Evora S, plus the Premium Pack with SuedeTex, which is either a gentleman from Texas clad in a becoming suede suit or a faux-leather seating material. The company’s Tech Pack is also part of the deal, along with a set of forged diamond cut design 19-inch wheels

Frankfurt: Lotus Evora GTE is a refined racer for the road

Filed under: Frankfurt Motor Show , Coupe , Performance , Lotus Lotus has been teasing a tuned-up Evora for a few months now, as rumors flew that the automaker was planning a hardcore version for the street . Finally, however, the rumors have all been confirmed as Lotus pulls back the wraps on the production Evora GTE Road Car. This is similar to the white and gray concept concept car we saw in Monterey , except the car now wears a matte yellow paint scheme, different wheels and a glossy carbon fiber lid. Lotus says this Evora GTE Road Car is the automaker’s most powerful production vehicle to date.
