Traffic deaths in U.S. fall to 60-year low
Posted by: | CommentsFiled under: Government/Legal , Safety According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration , the number of fatalities on America’s highways is at its lowest level since 1950. The number of deaths in vehicle collisions last year fell by 9.2 percent compared to 2008. As of 2009, the fatality rate has dropped to 1.13 deaths per 100 million vehicle miles traveled.

Hyundai BlueOn electric vehicle unveiled in South Korea

The tiny BlueOn is based on the Hyundai i10 minicar and was first shown as a prototype at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show when it was called the i10 Electric. The little EV is equipped with a 16.4 kWh lithium-polymer battery pack but, other than the capacity, Hyundai hasn’t announced details about the battery yet. The pack will probably come from LG Chem, which also supplies lithium polymer energy storage for the Sonata hybrid and Chevrolet Volt

Mini Countryman rally car shown testing for WRC

The company has just finished testing its prototype rally beater at Prodrive’s private test facility, putting the car through its paces over four days and multiple road surfaces. According to Mini, most of the abuse took place on a tarmac circuit, though the team did spend plenty of time getting the car situated on a few low-grip stages.
