Auto Shows , Renault , India , Diesel While Renault ‘s RS27 engine was powering Sebastian Vettel’s RB7 to yet another victory at the inaugural Indian Grand Prix , Renault was also unveiling a new dedicated vehicle for the Indian market. Called the Pulse, the subcompact hatchback is built upon the same platform as the Nissan Micra at the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s assembly plant in Chennai, India.

Interestingly, this SX4 uses a previously unseen hybrid system developed by Maruti Suzuki with assistance from India’s National Hybrid Propulsion Program and the (deep breath) Ministry of New and Renewable Energy Sources’ High Energy Density Battery Development Program.

Just last week, Toyota made almost the exact same announcement and both Japanese automakers are staying mum on any actual details. According to The Wall Street Journal , Honda’s entry in the hotly-contested market of India is being referred to internally as the “New Small Concept,” and while it’s intended primarily for emerging markets (think: Tata Nano), the vehicle is being engineered so that it could be sold in other parts of the world
