Detroit: Ford Fusion, Lexus LF-LC win Eyes on Design awards

Filed under: Concept Cars , Detroit Auto Show , Ford , Lexus , Design/Style Every year at the Detroit Auto Show , the Eyes on Design awards honors the best designs among production vehicles and concepts debuting that year. Unlike, say, the North American International Car and Truck of the Year awards , the only vehicles eligible for an Eyes on Design award are the ones that introduce themselves to the world – well, really just North America – in Detroit. What’s particularly interesting is that the judges for these two awards (one for production vehicles and the other for concepts) are all active or retired designers themselves, so they know a little something about the topic.

Report: Next-Gen Hyundai Santa Fe will debut in Big Apple

Filed under: New York Auto Show , Crossover , Hyundai Motor Trend reports Hyundai has confirmed that its next-generation Santa Fe will bow at the 2012 New York Auto Show . The third-generation Santa Fe is expected to hit dealer lots by the end of the year as a 2013 model. Hyundai hasn’t disclosed exactly what we can expect from the vehicle when it arrives, though spy shots suggest a vehicle more in-line with the automaker’s current design language.

BMW still has "no plans" for 1 Series hatch in States, X6-like X3 variant in the cards

Filed under: Detroit Auto Show , Sedan , Technology , Crossover , Hatchback , BMW , Diesel , Luxury We’ve just returned from a Detroit Auto Show media roundtable with Klaus Draeger, member of the Board of BMW AG, Development, and he’s helped shed some light on both some near- and far-term developments for BMW in the States. Draeger confirmed that BMW has absolutely no plans to expand the 1 Series lineup in the U.S. with a hatchback variant like the new generation F20 range sold in Europe . While Draeger says that the 1 Series has done a “wonderful job” for BMW, he notes that the model is positioned very differently in the U.S.
