Filed under: Toys/Games Playing With The Enemy And Loving It In the interest of full disclosure, I should make it clear up front that I have always been a loyal devotee of Gran Turismo . The series helped craft my automotive knowledge through middle school and high school, helped me choose the proper spring rates for my track rat in college, and generally consumed days and days of my young life. So when Turn 10 introduced Forza Motorsport for the Microsoft xBox in 2005, I was skeptical. Whereas Gran Turismo seemed to push the realism line ever further, Forza Motorsport felt laced with traces of Cruisin’ USA or some other relic of the arcade circuit.

That developer is Slightly Mad Studios, which has roots to the SimBin team that created the groundbreaking GTR on the PC. The resulting game was the first Need for Speed: Shift – truly a fresh title and, more importantly, a truly great racer, managing to straddle the console racing and simulation genres and do both admirably well. GT Academy ‘Sweet 16′ head to Silverstone

Filed under: Motorsports , Technology , Toys/Games Of the more than 52,000 contestants who originally entered into the United States version of GT Academy , jointly hosted by Nissan and Sony , just 16 have advanced to the final competition being held in Silverstone in the United Kingdom. The top 32 virtual racers from the four U.S. regions descended on Orlando, Florida this week to go pixel-to-pixel for a spot among the sweet 16.

Video: Cars 2 game gets own trailer

Filed under: Videos Cars 2 video game trailer – Click above to watch the video after the jump Cars 2 is coming to theaters everywhere on June 24, and if we’re honest, we’re pretty stoked. The original Cars movie was, after all, a great flick with an all-car cast. And thanks to the popularity of the first Cars movie, Disney and Pixar plan to make a Mater-load of cash with this second round, and not just on the movie itself.

Review: Test Drive Unlimited 2

Filed under: Etc. , Toys/Games , Reviews Massively Open Online Racing Rolls Again Test Drive Unlimited 2: Review – Click above for high-res image gallery It’s hard to believe that four and a half years have passed since Eden Studios took its best shot at merging the open online gameplay of an MMO with a racer to create the original Test Drive Unlimited . Most would agree that the attempt wasn’t exactly perfect, but that didn’t stop TDU from being refreshing and incredibly fun to play. Really, who wouldn’t get behind the idea of amassing a collection of gorgeous cars and recklessly racing them all over Oahu?
