Typically those range-topping vehicles come in the form of sports cars – think Audi R8 , Dodge Viper , Lexus LFA et al – but Mercedes-Benz is reportedly taking another direction.

Rumormill: Porsche’s Elise-fighter to get 1.9-liter four?

Filed under: Convertible , Performance , Europe , Porsche , Rumormill Porsche is apparently still working on a new small sports car designed to give the Lotus Elise something to chew on, at least if the reports coming from CAR Magazine are to be believed. Code-named Project Mimo, the vehicle is slated to be positioned below the Boxster and be built on the bones of the rumored Audi R5 and Volkswagen BlueSport convertibles. CAR reports that all three machines are currently mired in the engineering feasibility stage of production, which means the whole lot could be binned at any moment. Even so, the Mimo is rumored to come with a 1.9-liter flat-four-cylinder engine under its hood

Rumormill: Speculation runs rampant on Porsche Pajun and 960 supercar

There’s no question that Porsche is on the move. The company that once revolved almost entirely around the 911 has since expanded to include smaller sportscars, sedans and SUVs, and is showing little sign of slowing down. The Cajun is set to arrive shortly to slot in below the Cayenne , while the 918 supercar will anchor the top end of the company’s product line-up.

Rumormill: BMW Z2 to feature all-wheel drive?

So says Britain’s CAR Magazine , which argues that the German automaker doesn’t want lose out to the everyman’s small roadster, the Mazda MX-5 Miata , now that its own Z4 has gotten larger and more expensive. According to CAR , unlike the larger Z4, the Z2 will only be available with a folding soft top, which should be good for weight but less so for refinement. Fortunately, CAR suggests that any talk of the car being front-wheel drive has been killed dead

The XTS is slated to replace both the STS and DTS , and while this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a test mule out in the open, it could be our best glimpse yet. The new sedan is said to be riding on an extended version of General Motors ‘ Epsilon II platform – the same architecture that underpins the Buick Regal and LaCrosse , the next Chevrolet Malibu and the new Saab 9-5 .
