IIHS awards 2011 Buick Regal Top Safety Pick

Filed under: Sedan , Safety , Buick , Luxury 2011 Buick Regal at IIHS – Click above for high-res image gallery The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety ( IIHS ) just wrapped up its battery of batterings on the 2011 Buick Regal , and the results have netted “Good” ratings for front, side, rear and rollover impact protection. Additionally, the Regal is the seventh vehicle from General Motors to earn a Top Safety Pick award, which includes the aforementioned rollover test where the Regal excelled. Buick’s Euro-born sedan was able to withstand almost five-times its weight – up from the federally-mandated standard of 1.5 times. The Regal joins its Buick sibling, the LaCrosse , along with the 2011 BMW 5 Series , Ford Taurus , Hyundai Genesis , Toyota Avalon and Volvo S80 as a Top Safety Pick in the large car segment.

2011 Kia Sportage bags IIHS ‘Top Safety Pick’

From where we sit, it’s one of the best-looking compact crossovers on the market, it’s reasonably priced (starting below $20,000) and as we found out in our first drive , it’s a pretty enjoyable steer, too. To add to these selling points, the Sportage was just named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, earning high marks in frontal, side, rear and rollover crash tests.

2011 BMW 5-Series nabs IIHS Top Safety Pick laurels

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has awarded the German automaker’s middle child the coveted Top Safety Pick accolade. The newest generation of the 5er managed to nab the highest ratings possible for front, side, rear and rollover crash protection, becoming the first 5 Series to win the Top Safety Pick in the model’s history. Surprisingly enough, the 2011 5 Series is also the first BMW to take the award since the IIHS incorporated its new roll-over test

IIHS tests Lexus HS250h for rollover, Suzuki Kizashi for side-impact

The little luxury hybrid recently underwent both side impact and rollover testing, nabbing Acceptable and Good ratings in each category, respectively. The HS 250h has also received a Good rating in offset frontal crash testing conducted earlier this year.

Kia Forte awarded IIHS ‘Top Safety Pick’

New products like the Soul and Forte have been relatively well received so far, and with new stunners like the 2011 Sportage and Optima on the way, Kia should benefit from a healthy boost in sales. But strip away the sleek new designs and clever interior packaging, and you’ll find that Kia’s core value of crafting extremely safe vehicles is still holding strong, especially now that the 2010 Forte sedan has been named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The Forte received ratings of “Good” (the highest achievable) in front, side, rear and rollover impact crash tests – something that safety-minded buyers will surely appreciate.
