Report: Toyota launches Pixis Space; first kei cars are Daihatsus in drag

Filed under: Minivan/Van , Wagon , Japan , Hatchback , Toyota , Daihatsu Toyota has announced that it will unveil its first-ever kei car to be sold under its recently launched Pixis sub-brand. The vehicle, called the Pixis Space, will make its official debut in late September. Based on the Daihatsu Move Conte , the Pixis Space will be sold at Toyota dealerships through what the automakers calls “Pixis stations.” Yes, seriously. After Toyota’s version of the Daihatsu Move Conte makes its debut, the Japanese automaker will launch a Pixis-badged Daihatsu Hijet truck and microvan in December.

Report: Toyota shows next Avalon to dealers, rumors suggest it looks like A7, XJ

The majority of Avalons out on the road are driven by old folks and curtain rod salesman, but a report from Automotive News suggests that this could all change in the very near future. In its report, AN claims that the next Avalon was shown to Toyota dealers in June, and the employees loved what they saw.

Judging by how closely the headlamps of the car you see here resemble the ones on the red car that Mr. Toyoda was standing by, this very well may be what the all-new Camry will look like. The best-selling mid-size sedan is expected to make its official debut later this year

Automaker incentives sink to five-year low

Filed under: Car Buying , Chrysler , Ford , GM , Honda , Nissan , Toyota Auto sales have been on an upward trajectory for many months, and the latest data shows that cash on the hood isn’t one of the reasons. According to Automotive News , incentive spending was at a five-year low in April, down 14 percent to an average of $2,320 per vehicle. Toyota had the lowest incentives among the top six automakers in the United States, with an average of $1,885 per unit.

Toyota recalls 308,000 RAV4 and Highlander models over airbag sensor

Filed under: SUV , Recalls , Safety , Crossover , Toyota Toyota has announced that it’s recalling 214,000 RAV4 models and 94,000 Highlander and Highlander HV models for side curtain airbag issues. The voluntary recall covers certain 2007 and 2008 models, all of which will need a new Curtain Shield Airbag Sensor Assembly. The roll-sensing curtain shield airbag system contains two sensors that detects roll angle. In the event that one of the sensors malfunctions, the airbag warning light illuminates.
