Toyota Prius camper conversion has us charging for the woods

Love it or hate it, Toyota has done an impressive job with the Prius . What started as a single model has grown to a whole family, including the versatile new Prius V minivan. But for some even that won’t prove enough space, so Japanese conversion outfit Campinn has developed this rather bizarre appendage for the standard Prius hatchback. Unveiled this weekend at the Tokyo Auto Salon , this conversion turns the current Prius into a camping van of sorts, complete with convertible sofa-bed and overhead sleeping area.

Detroit: Toyota Prius C brings hybrid economy to the masses for under $19,000

Filed under: Hybrid , Hatchback , Toyota C is for Cookie. At least, that’s what the baking industry lobbyist known as Cookie Monster would have us believe. At Toyota they have another idea, where C is not for Cookie, it’s not for Car and it’s not for Compact.

Detroit: 2013 Ford Fusion Energi PHEV will plug-in the mid-size segment [w/video]

Filed under: Detroit Auto Show , Hybrid , Sedan , Ford , Electric Along with the standard and hybrid versions of the 2013 Fusion , Ford brought something completely different – for the mid-size segment, anyway – to the Detroit Auto Show this morning with the Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid. It’s the cleanest of the trio and it shows that Ford is ready to introduce a big change to the competitive (and somewhat staid) mid-size class. Ford says it expects the Fusion Energi to get better MPGe ratings than both the Chevrolet Volt ( 93 MPGe , EPA rating) and the Toyota Prius Plug In ( 112 MPGe , but that’s on the European rating cycle).

Official: Ford says Focus Electric will get 100 MPGe, C-Max models also ready to compete

Oh, what a difference one seat makes. Ford just announced that the Focus Electric will be, “the first all-electric vehicle to achieve a 100 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) fuel efficiency rating.” But wait, you’re saying, what about the Mitsubishi i , which gets 112 MPGe ? Ah, this is when you finish reading Ford’s sentence, which ends, “with seating for five.” The i is rated as a four-seat (two-plus-two) vehicle while the Focus is a “normal” five-seater. 100 MPGe is just one selling point for Ford’s upcoming EV
