Video: Lexus LFA Roadster makes appearance at Japanese drift event

Filed under: Motorsports , Convertible , Performance , Videos , Lexus , Tokyo Auto Salon , Specialty If top-down motoring is your cup of tea, there are few droptops that could elicit as many smiles per sun-drenched hour than the long-rumored Lexus LFA Roadster . We first saw the V10-powered 552-horsepower machine at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show , but the automaker has kept its lips firmly sealed on the potential of a production version since that showing. Interestingly enough, though, it appears that Toyota’s luxury division may not be done trotting proproduction LFA Roadsters around the auto show circuit.

CES: Mercedes-Benz DICE concept brings gesture controls to the cockpit [w/video]

Filed under: Concept Cars , CES , Technology , Videos , Mercedes-Benz , Luxury , Infotainment Not to be outdone by its competitors from Ingolstadt , Mercedes-Benz brought out its own vision of the future of interiors, complete with augmented reality, a fully customizable dashboard and gesture-based controls. There’s not a knob or button to be found… The video after the jump demonstrates the Dynamic & Intuitive Control Experience (DICE) far better than words can convey, but the basic elements are these: a series of proximity sensors detect hand motions across the interior, allowing you to scroll, select and control a variety of functions.

Official: 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth priced from $22,000*

Filed under: Car Buying , Performance , Hatchback , Fiat Fiat has announced that the 2012 500 Abarth will be priced from $22,000, *not including destination charges. That’s a healthy jump from the tiny Italian’s $15,500 base MSRP and higher still than the open-air 500C that starts at $19,500. For all that extra lira, buyers get Fiat’s turbocharged 1.4-liter MultiAir engine producing 160 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque.

We were especially interested in getting a first-hand look at the automaker’s new infotainment system, and its interesting take on a next-generation instrument panel. The gauge cluster is powered by a seven-inch Thin Film Transistor (TFT) display that enables the driver to customize the interface to his or her desire, and appears to be simple and intuitive to operate. Dodge Communications representative Kathy Graham was nice enough to give us a quick walkthrough of the cutting-age tech, and we have the video to prove it.
